2.) How long have you been an entrepreneur?
From the beginning, grade school actually. I got the keys to my first office in high school. I’ve had one ever since. I was recruited out of college by Jostens and while running my one person department, I realized I was a true entrepreneur. In 1986, I incorporated.
3.) What’s your favorite part of running your business?
I love to lead and influence—to define my career.
4.) How did you get connected to Launchwise?
Daisy Nguyen is a force of nature.
5.) Who have you met at one of our events that you’re looking forward to stay connected with?
Ryan Samuelson wanted to be involved in a political campaign. I was able to assist him in his wishes. Andy Harwood of Fabric Brand, a creative services and branding agency is a rising star. It is always great to connect with John Lenker. His latest endeavor is fascinating as well as tasty. Jeffery Kimbel, from Import Iberia. I love Spanish wine. Thomas Streitz, Director of Housing Policy and Development for the City of Minneapolis. Stay in touch with city officials. This is where government rubber hits the road in front of your house.
6.) What business advice do you have for other entrepreneurs?
Failure is the second best outcome of any endeavor. Doing nothing is much worse.
7.) Who’s is your entrepreneurial idol?
Steve Jobs. He changed everything.
8.) Do you have a favorite quote?
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” -Robert Heinlein
9.) What is your favorite meal?
There is nothing quite like the smell of a great steak on a charcoal grill—a potato, a salad and a nice bottle of Cabernet.
